Egyptian women who suffer from breast cancer increase in numbers

October as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month is spreading worldwide, as women across the globe are affected by this disease. According to The Washington Times, the numbers of Egyptian women with breast cancer continues to climb, as it is the most prevalent cancer among women and accounts for 35.1 percent of cancer cases in the country.

There are many reasons why it is so prevalent including that women are not likely to seek medical treatment or preventative screening, which limits the possibility of treating the disease early. The Women Health Outreach Program has been awarded with funds to provide free mammograms in the hopes of diminishing these high numbers. So far, there have been 76,000 free screenings given, the media outlet reports.

According to the American Cancer Society, this disease is the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women, following only lung cancer. However, the death rate has been declining since 1990 due to advancements in research and breast cancer breakthrough news. In the U.S., there are currently 2.5 million survivors.
