Connecticut Governor will chair Race for the Cure after victory over breast cancer

Connecticut's Governor Jodi Rell, who triumphed over breast cancer five years ago, was named as the Honorary Chair of the 17th Annual Susan G. Komen Connecticut Race for the Cure.

The event will take place on June 5th as part of the organization's Race for the Cure Series, which has been heralded as the world's largest and most profitable fundraising event for breast cancer research and education, ConnecticutPlus.com reports.

"I hope every Connecticut resident joins me at the Race for the Cure this year," Governor Rell told the news source.

She added, "It's a great way to raise significant funds in the fight against breast cancer and I'm thrilled to be part of it."

In previous years, Connecticut's race has drawn about 10,000 state residents, including roughly 500 breast cancer survivors to coalesce in the fight for against the disease.

Last year, the event raised more than $871,000, which was used to promote state-based breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs and national research initiatives, says the news provider.

In total, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has raised $450 million to fund breast cancer research and provided $900 million to bring breast cancer screenings and treatment to those in need.ADNFCR-2795-ID-19665093-ADNFCR
