A dog named Pebbles was quite the sight for workers at a rock quarry in Florida when they realized she had eight newborn puppies with her, reports Peoplepets.com
Pebbles had been abandoned by her owners while pregnant and gave birth in the quarry. She dug a four foot den to protect her little ones from harm.
Workers at the site found her and the pups, but were worried about their safety.
"When they started seeing the puppies come out, everybody got really concerned because of the trucks, and didn't want anybody to be hurt," Sheila Satterfield, who helped with the rescue, told the news source.
The four-legged family was then taken to the Tri County Humane Society, where their health was immediately addressed. They were treated for fleas and parasites, thoroughly bathed and given plenty of food and rest.
The dogs are in good health now and will be ready for adoption once the puppies turn eight weeks old. The shelter has been fielding calls from countless people who want to give them a loving home.
